Solicitor Strikes Lucky on Hospice Lottery

Soon-to-be retiring solicitor Peter Hill from Little Witley is celebrating after winning £3,000 on the hospices lottery.

In a generous gesture of support for St Richard’s Hospice, he immediately donated £300 back to the charity.

Mr Hill said, “It’s my first big win ever and the timing is marvellous. I am about to retire and have a holiday in America coming up so this win will give our spending money a boost!”

Mr Hill works as a consultant for mfg Solicitors and is retiring after a lifetimes’ career with the firm. He knows St Richard’s Hospice well as mfg Solicitors are supporters of the charity, as is his son Matthew who has completed a number of charity cycle rides.

Mr Hill joined the hospice lottery – a joint venture between St Richard’s Hospice and Acorns Children’s Hospice in 2009. He was the lucky winner of the lottery rollover.

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and supports their families. Each year the hospice team supports over 2,500 patients and family members in Worcestershire.

Patients are cared for in Day Hospice, the 17-bed In-patient Unit or in their own homes by a specialist professional team as well as many trained volunteers.

In the In-patient Unit specialist staff are on hand 24 hours a day to manage patients’ symptoms and where, if they so choose, patients may spend the last few days of life in comfort and dignity. St Richard’s is an independent charity and is grateful for all donations to help them to continue their work.
