Our hospice experience

My wife’s mother Pat was diagnosed with bladder cancer in October 2011. She spent Christmas in hospital in Redditch where the bladder was removed and after a couple of weeks in hospital and a few more recuperating with us, she was able to go home to Worcester. The cancer was very aggressive though and by Easter 2012, Pat was back in hospital in Cheltenham. A further major operation took place to r...

My daughters Camille, aged 5, and Imogen, aged 2, were distraught watching their Daddy’s daily struggle to stay with them. Every month I came to the Young Carers Group with my daughter Camille where she me...

St Richard's at Christmas
19 December 2011
An extract from a thank you letter to St Richard's after last Christmas :
To everyone at St Richard’s Hospice.
Not only were you able to keep Dad as healthy as possible but you always kept a smile on his face and as the weeks passed he decided to ask his visitors for a small donation towards the hospice, which he kept in a used coffee jar beside his bed. He loved many members of your staff and ...

"I will never forget..."
22 August 2011
From a recent letter:
"From the moment my father entered St Richard's we were welcomed by caring, professional staff who did their utmost to make my father's last few days peaceful and comfortable. I will never forget the kindness and compassion shown to me, especially during dad's last night, and the calm and caring way in which dad's symptoms were controlled. I am deeply sad that dad has gone ...
