Run the rainbow for Worcestershire hospices

Following the huge success of St Richard’s Hospice’s sell-out Rainbow Run, three Worcestershire hospices are offering people a second opportunity to take part in a colourful fun run.

St Richard’s Hospice, Primrose Hospice and KEMP Hospice have come together for the first time to offer supporters across the county the opportunity to take part in a joint Rainbow Run on Sunday 6th September and fundraise for their local hospice.

In March, over 700 people turned out to be showered in an explosion of coloured powder as they ran or walked a 5km course. For many, it was particularly poignant as the event took place on Mother’s Day and they were taking part in memory of loved ones.

Registration is now open for the next hospice Rainbow Run on Sunday, 6th September, with places open to anyone aged 8 or over. The event will be held at Top Barn Activity Centre, Holt Heath.

Turn up in your oldest and whitest sports kit and prepare to run, walk, skip or dance the 5km route while getting showered with colours of the rainbow at every 1km point.

The event organisers are offering local businesses sponsorship opportunities, and are interested in hearing from any organisation that is interested in sponsoring the event or a paint station, or could offer face painting services.

Tricia Cavell, Fundraising Director at St Richard’s Hospice, said; “Our first Rainbow Run quickly sold out and regrettably some people were unable to take part so we wanted to offer another opportunity to join in the fun. We also listened to comments that people wanted to take part as a family and are pleased that we are able to open this event up for children aged 8 and over.

“We are delighted to be working with Primrose and KEMP Hospices on a joint event. This means that the Rainbow Run will be open to participants who want to support their local hospice. It also offers us cost savings compared to setting up separate events, meaning that more of the money raised will go directly towards caring for patients.”

Helen Garfield, Chief Executive Officer at Primrose Hospice, said; “We are delighted to join in partnership with St Richard’s and KEMP Hospices. Together we support the whole of Worcestershire with end of life services. Joining together makes financial sense for us all and gives our supporters the chance to take part in this exciting opportunity. I’m sure everyone will have a great time and the funds raised will help local people in their time of need”.

Terry Osborn, Chief Executive of KEMP Hospice said; “Working collaboratively and sharing costs with St Richard’s and Primrose hospices enables us all to do more to support people in our local areas with us putting the patient and their families at the heart of all we do.  This fun, colourful event will bring families together and provide much needed additional funds for our local hospices.”

The event is not a timed race; the aim is to have fun with your friends, family and work colleagues and to finish with a smile, while raising funds for your local hospice.

Dogs are not allowed to participate and children aged 8-16 must be accompanied by an adult. The event start will be staggered from 11am to take into consideration the safety of all participants.

Participants should register to take part with the hospice they wish to support, by visiting their website. To find out more about the event, and to register to support St Richard’s Hospice visit our Rainbow Run event page.
