Senior Management Team

Medical Director

Dr. Nicky Wilderspin

After general hospital medical training Nicky initially pursued a career in international public health and clinical research, spending 5 years in Malawi, central Africa. Here she helped to establish community services for patients with tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. This was where she learnt the value of a palliative care approach, saw how this could significantly improve quality of life and reduce the stigma and isolation related to HIV/AIDS.

On return to the UK, Nicky trained as a specialist in palliative medicine and was appointed as a consultant based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in 2007. She was involved in developing the hospital palliative care team and working with colleagues to improve the choices and support available to people with palliative care needs across the county. She was appointed as St Richard’s Medical Director in 2012. She enjoys research and teaching and has trained as a facilitator for nationally accredited advanced communication skills training courses for senior health professionals.
