A Droitwich man has relaxed in his first bath for two years – thanks to St Richard’s Hospice.
Leslie Salmon from Droitwich, is living with bowel cancer and is currently receiving care in the In-patient Unit of the Worcestershire hospice based at Wildwood Drive, Worcester.
Mr Salmon, aged 80, enjoyed the jacuzzi bath with the help of Health Care Assistant Clarissa North.
“I’ve been able to shower but this was my first bath f
or a couple of years and it was just brilliant, so relaxing,” said Mr Salmon, who has been unable to have a bath due to problems with his mobility.
Mr Salmon said, “I came here to get help with acute sickness and I’ve picked up well and feel so much better. I know I can’t be cured but it’s quality of life that’s important and St Richard’s is helping me get that back.”
As well as the care and support from a range of hospice teams, Mr Salmon said he was particularly in awe of the chef and kitchen staff.
As he is unable to eat solid food, the chef has been making him different flavoured consommé soups with tasters to try.
Mr Salmon said he is looking forward to be eating a bacon sandwich before he leaves and heads back to his home.
“The place is absolutely fantastic and everyone is so nice,” said Mrs Salmon. It’s faultless.”
St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their loved ones. Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,000 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.
The hospice strives to provide the best medical, practical, emotional and social support they can to help people live life to the fullest, as independently as they can, for as long as they can. They care for people with a range of illnesses including heart failure, Parkinson’s, and motor neurone disease as well as cancer.
