MORRISTON ORPHEUS MALE CHOIR
We are organising a concert in Pershore Abbey on Saturday 17th September 2016, commencing at 7.00pm, all seats are unreserved and will cost £ 15.00 each pre-paid or £ 20.00 on the night on the door if the concert is not sold out!
The concert is being held as a celebration of the life of our youngest son, Paul Fletcher, who passed away in December 2010, aged 34 so this year would have been his fortieth birthday.
Our wish is to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester who nursed him so well in his final weeks and to whom we will always be most grateful.
The Morriston Orpheus Male Choir, from near Swansea, is renowned throughout the world. The choir is internationally-acclaimed as a leading exponent of male choral singing and is in constant demand with around 25 engagements each year including concerts, TV and after-dinner performances.
The choir was formed in 1935 by Ivor E Sims and, in its early days, concentrated primarily on competitions and local concerts, achieving success at the Welsh Royal National Eisteddfod on seven occasions. Whilst the focus of the choir has changed and it no longer takes part in competitions, its members in the 21st century do not forget the eminence which their forbears achieved and constantly strive for musical excellence in which audiences at home and overseas delight. Over the years, successive Musical Directors have developed and broadened the repertoire and variety is now the hallmark of the Choir’s performances.
The choir regularly undertakes concert tours overseas and has been enthusiastically received in a number of visits to major cities in North America, New Zealand and Australia, to name just a few, including standing ovations at its appearances in the world-famous Sydney Opera House. Since 1965 the choir has undertaken almost 30 overseas concert tours and were privileged to be invited to sing in New York at Ground Zero immediately following the Twin Towers destruction.
The choirs recordings are in great demand on radio programmes and the choir has appeared in concert with Elvis Imperials.
The current Musical Director is Joy Amman Davies who was appointed in June 2007 following 16 years as the accompanist.
This will be a concert not to be missed!!
