Family of ‘Incredibles’ to take on Superhero Challenge

A family of fearless fundraisers are preparing to become superheroes for the day in aid of St Richard’s Hospice.

Lesley Cornish, her husband Mark, and children Alice, Emily and Matthew, will take on St Richard’s Superhero Challenge in Holt, near Worcester, on Saturday, June 17.

They will navigate the giant, inflatable obstacle course, complete with oodles of foam, dressed as The Incredibles – in honour of the “incredible” hospice care Mrs Cornish’s dad Trevor Hockenhull received.

Mr Hockenhull, who lived with his wife in Badsey, near Evesham, died after being diagnosed with cancer. He was cared for by St Richard’s for ten days in February last year.

As the Superhero Challenge falls over the same weekend as Father’s Day, the event will be an especially poignant way for Mrs Cornish to remember her dad.

Mrs Cornish, aged 51, said: “We were so fortunate to have the support of St Richard’s Hospice to care for both my dad and my mother.

“We think the care and support St Richard’s provided was incredible and so we will be running the race dressed as The Incredibles to demonstrate this fact.”

The Cornish family live in Essex. Mr Cornish is aged 45, Alice is 15, and Matthew and Emily are 13 years old.

The family have already smashed their £250 target, but are still receiving donations. To make a donation visit justgiving.com/fundraising/MarkCornish2017

The challenge, held at the University of Worcester Lakeside Campus in Holt, Worcester, will see hundreds of out-of-this-world fundraisers tackle an inflatable course, filled with bouncy tunnels, UV bubbles, clouds of foam and a Big Bertha Drop Slide.

Rachel Jones, fundraising manager at St Richard’s, said: “We’re so excited about the Superhero Challenge, we’ve never done an event like this before and we can’t wait to see everyone taking on the 10 giant inflatables and foam galore.

“We have had nearly 600 people sign up so far and there are so many lovely stories about why people are taking part and celebrating their superheroes in their life.

“We urge people to get involved and take on the challenge- it’s not a race, you can walk or jog.

“There will be lots of extra activities taking part on the day too like the BBQ, bouncy castle, bungee run and gladiator dual, so it will be a great day out.”

Participants can bring along a photo of their ‘real life hero’ to share on the ‘Superhero Gallery’ display during the day.

Places are limited to 50 per time slot – which are every 15 minutes between 10.00am and 4.00pm – with a minimum height restriction of 123cm, anyone 16 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Those with medical conditions or skin allergies are advised not to take part in the event.

The event is being sponsored by A44 Tyre Shop.

Participants are asked to pledge to raise sponsorship of £50 or more to help St Richard’s continue to offer free care to patients and their loved ones.
