The birdlife in the gardens of St Richard’s Hospice, Worcester, has been given a boost with the donation of 14 new homes.
The nesting boxes were given through the environmental charity Welcome to our Future which is based in Pershore.
Grants Manager Bill Richardson, explained, “Welcome to our Future has secured funding from the Lillie C. Johnson Charitable Trust to pay for the bird nesting boxes which will be placed around the garden and grounds of the hospice.”
St Richard’s Chief Executive, June Patel said, “We are very grateful to Welcome to our Future for donating the bird boxes to help our birdlife thrive, We know from experience the therapeutic benefit animals can bring to patients in the hospice and that they love to watch the birds and wildlife in the garden.”
Bill Richardson, from St Peter’s, Worcester, is a dedicated hospice supporter and has previously undertaken a number of fundraising challenges for St Richard’s in memory of his late wife, Brenda, who was cared for by the hospice before she died in 2012.
St Richard’s Hospice cares for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment and to their last days. They also support their loved ones. Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,300 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.
St Richard’s is an independent charity and relies on donations for three quarters of its annual £8.8m income with the remainder from the NHS.
St Richard’s is also raising funds for the Build 2020 Appeal to build a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire. The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m.
