Join the volunteer team at Barnards Green shops

A Worcestershire-based hospice is holding a special event encouraging people to join their volunteer team in the charity’s two shops in Barnards Green, Malvern.

Potential volunteers can pop in and find out about volunteering opportunities at the hospice’s shop,110-112 Barnards Green Road, on Saturday, 29th June from 2pm to 4pm.

There will also be a chance to find out about volunteering in the recently opened St Richard’s clearance shop, which is based nearby at 1b Court Road.

Gemma Timmis, Volunteer Engagement Officer said: “If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to volunteer then pop along and find out. As a volunteer in our shops, you become part of a fantastic team, meet new people and give back to your community. You will receive a very warm welcome.

“We have hours that can be flexible to suit your lifestyle.  Just a few hours a week in one of our shops, in the short or long term, will make a big difference.”

St Richard’s shop volunteers are the charity’s face within the community. Last year the 18 hospice charity shops and warehouse raised a net profit of over £900,000 through the sale of good quality clothes, bric-a-brac, books and furniture donated by local people to help fund hospice care.

St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity offering free, expert care for adults with an illness that cannot be cured, and support for their loved ones and carers.

Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,100 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

It will cost in the region of £12m to run the hospice this year, which includes patient care and all the necessary support services.

St Richard’s relies on voluntary support, including from donations, gifts in Wills, retail and events for the majority of its income with the remainder funded by the NHS.
