Volunteer Hospice Receptionist

Key activities will include:

  • Greeting visitors in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Responding to enquiries.
  • Answering calls & taking messages.
  • Administrative tasks
  • Talking to patients and their families.
  • Keeping up to date on the charity’s work to answer general queries
  • This role is rewarding but can sometimes be emotionally challenging.

General Information:

  • All volunteers who regularly come to the Hospice or have patient contact are subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks
  • Volunteers are required to comply with Hospice policies and procedures including Confidentiality.
  • All volunteers are expected to attend induction training and annual mandatory updates relevant to their role

What skills will I need?

  • Approachable, trustworthy and adaptable
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as to own initiative
  • Good level of I.T. competency in the use of software systems and Microsoft package
  • Empathy
  • Comfortable answering calls and speaking on the phone in a polite and friendly manner
  • Previous reception/admin experience is preferred but not a necessary requirement

  • Full induction and training will be provided
  • Support and guidance by other members of staff
