Engagement with our local community is at the heart of St Richard’s Hospice. Listening to people’s needs and understanding the diversity in our community enables us to provide accessible services which meet the needs of individuals. Through community engagement, we raise awareness of our services, the support we provide and dispel common hospice myths.
Our Engagement Officer builds relationships with local community organisations, networks and support groups to ensure our services are inclusive.

Working with our community
We build relationships with community groups to ensure the hospice’s services are inclusive and meet the needs of the local community.
The hospice made three pledges in the SpeakEasy NOW White Paper on Growing Older and End of Life, produced a hospice leaflet in easy read with SpeakEasy and co-hosted a free event on growing older and end of life for people with learning disabilities and their loved ones.
The hospice works closely with Tallow Hill Mosque in Worcester by regularly engaging with their members and joining Eid celebrations.
Hospice staff and volunteers attend Worcester Pride and Birmingham Pride events to promote hospice care for all.
Schools and young people
The hospice’s Family Support Team regularly supports local schools to increase understanding of hospice care and bereavement with both pupils and teachers.
Talks in the community
The hospice’s passionate teams regularly deliver talks to local community groups and to those who are interested in hearing more about the hospice’s support. The hospice visits WI’s, Rotary groups, lunch clubs, friendship clubs and other social groups in the community.
Campaign weeks
St Richard’s Hospice runs activities in the community during Dying Matters Awareness Week and Hospice Care Week to raise its profile and initiate conversations with its community around palliative care, death, dying and bereavement.
