Day Services Administration Volunteers

St. Richard’s Hospice are looking for people to make a difference to the lives of others every day.

Day Services consists of Out-Patient Clinics, Day Hospice and Living Well and we are currently recruiting volunteers to assist with general administration tasks such as the scanning of documents onto our patient records system and the booking of attendees onto our social groups.

Out-patient clinics take place on Mondays and offer patients with advanced conditions the opportunity to attend specialist out-patient appointments at the hospice. Palliative care out-patient clinics are held for patients with Parkinson’s disease, advanced respiratory, cardiac and renal conditions. The specialist clinics aim to improve quality of life for patients by proactively managing their illness, and help them and their families to plan for the future.

Patients come to Day Hospice to have some time for themselves and to provide a break for their carers. They will receive individual care from our specialist professional team of doctors, nurses, therapists, chaplains and trained volunteers and be given comfort, friendship and excellent food! Patients will also have access to Complementary therapies, physiotherapy, occupational therapy advice, massage and aromatherapy, a relaxing bath, hairdressing, creative therapy with art and activities.

Living Well courses take place on Fridays and are open to people living with a life-limiting condition such as cancer, heart failure, COPD, chronic kidney disease, Parkinson’s disease and motor neurone disease. The courses will help patients learn new skills, strategies and techniques through education, exercise, therapies, creativity, relaxation and group support. With many courses, participants will be encouraged to practice techniques to learn how to manage symptoms at home; to help gain the maximum benefit from the course and develop confidence to continue practising once the course has come to an end.

This role is enjoyable and rewarding but can sometimes be challenging.

Good communication skills including listening skills and the ability to be sensitive to the varied needs of others are essential for this role.
