Virtual Waterways Walk 2021
1st July – 31st August 2021
After its success last year, our Virtual Waterways Walk is returning for 2021. So, you can still dust off those walking boots and enjoy the beautiful Worcestershire Waterways, while supporting our care, but at a date and time to suit you! You may even spot some Elephants along the way with the launch of Worcester’s Big Parade on 12th July.
With mass participation fundraising events off the cards this year, St Richard’s Hospice needs your support more than ever. We have found new ways of working so that much-loved events, such as our Waterways Walk, can still go ahead – even if they look a little different.
Taking part in a virtual Waterways Walk is easy! Choose from either an 11-mile one-way route or a 22-mile round walk, which you can complete at any point in the months of July and August. We’ll provide a map, directions and everyone who signs up will receive their very own St Richard’s Hospice t-shirt.
Of course, the other thing we ask is that you raise as much as you can in sponsorship so we can continue to be there for patients and loved ones when they need us most. With our shops only just reopening after months of closure, and most of our fundraising events cancelled, the coronavirus pandemic is taking its toll on charities like us. But with your help and our broader community of supporters, we are hopeful we can come through these difficult days together.
It is important to take on the virtual Waterways Walk safely and in line with Government recommendations about social distancing. Please remember to:
– avoid peak times on the towpaths, if possible, e.g. weekends and midday
– stay 2 meters apart from other people not from your household.

How your fundraising helps
We have kindly asked you raise as much as you can as it will all go towards the £9.3m required this year to help us continue to provide the free services to those who need it. To give you some inspiration:
- £15.63 could pay for a specialist Living Well Centre Nurse for an hour
- £90.26 could pay for a Hospice at Home Healthcare Assistant for a day
- £121.53 could pay for a Staff Nurse in the In-patient Unit for a day
- £486 could pay for a patient to receive specialist care in our In-patient Unit for one day
