Advice and Guidance Service

The Advice and Guidance Service is a telephone line staffed by senior staff nurses, assistant practitioners and admin support who provide an entry point for all professional and self-referrals to the hospice.

The line is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, or between 8am and 4pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. You can access this via the main hospice number 01905 763963.

Outside these hours, your call will be diverted to our In-patient Unit, where a member of the team can help with your enquiry.

The Advice and Guidance team provide:

  • coordination of admissions to our In-patient Unit (IPU)
  • telephone support and follow-up for community patients
  • specialist advice and support for patients and their families, and signpost them to other appropriate services to support patients’ needs

A senior clinical nurse specialist (CNS) supports the team to advise professionals on prescribing, or for support with patients who have complex palliative care needs.

Senior CNSs and consultants may invite patients to out-patient clinics at St Richard’s, or in a place close to the patient’s home, to help them with complex symptom management, advance health assessment, and to prescribe, if necessary.
