We would like to say a huge thank you to the three intrepid fundraisers who walked the Great Wall of China to raise money for our care.
Rebecca England, along with Claire Way and her son Evan, spent five days trekking a section of the historic wall – even camping overnight inside a watchtower.
Between them, they have raised more than £4,500 to support St Richard’s specialist care to patients living with life-limiting illnesses, their loved ones and bereaved people across Worcestershire.
Mrs Way, from Abberley, near Worcester, said: “We really enjoyed walking together, although lots of the wall is now derelict so there was lots of climbing.
“The hardest part of the trip was probably a climb to Crouching Tiger Hill – it was very steep and uneven so took a long while and was a bit scary in places.
“The highlight was meeting lovely people and making new friends and lasting memories with my son.
“Another great experience for us both was camping overnight actually on the wall inside one of the watchtowers. We woke to the sunrise the nest morning after a cold and very noisy night!
“I feel proud and relieved to have completed the task, it was a beautiful, very unusual place to visit.”
Mrs Way and Evan raised £1,800, while Miss England, from Worcester, raised £2,952.30.
Miss England, aged 29, completed the challenge in memory of her mum Vivienne England (pictured left) – who died aged 62.
Mrs England, a former nurse and manager who lived in Worcester, was cared for by St Richard’s in her own home, before she died earlier this year.
