Tree recycling scheme takes hassle out of festive clear-up

St Richard’s Hospice has joined forces with businesses across the county to deliver its Christmas tree recycling campaign.

The hospice – along with host of volunteers – is preparing to run its tree recycling scheme again early in the New Year.

From Friday, 12th January to Sunday, 14th January, teams of volunteers from a host of organisations will be out collecting trees from homes around Worcestershire – before taking them to be recycled.

The hospice is running the campaign in partnership with the charity JustHelping and will ask people to make a donation in return for recycling their trees – helping support its free care to patients living with life-limiting illnesses.

Jayne Sargeant, Fundraiser at St Richard’s, said: “Lots of people love a real Christmas tree at home for the festive season but the hassle and mess of removing them can be a downside.

“This service, provided by our wonderful volunteers, will make life easier for people because the trees will be collected from their own homes and recycled for them.”

Trees will be collected in the WR1, WR2, WR3, WR4, WR5, WR8, WR9, WR10, WR11, WR12, WR13 and WR14 postcode areas.

To arrange a collection and to make a donation, register your tree online by Tuesday, 9th January 2018 at just-helping.org.uk/who-we-support/st-richards-hospice/

There is no set fee for a donation but, for example, £15 could pay for a specialist Day Hospice nurse for an hour, or £27 could provide meals for three patients on the hospice’s In-patient Unit.

After costs, 90 per cent of the money raised will go St Richard’s – with the remaining 10 per cent donated to other local charities.

Organisations across Worcestershire supporting the campaign include: Adam Willington ACW Trees, Nationwide Building Society, Fortis Living, Rybrook BMW and Mini Worcester, Rock Power Connections, Walsh Construction, Leigh Sinton Christmas Trees, Cotswold Drainage, Henson Plant Hire Evesham, Dan Powell Instant Scenery, David’s Nurseries, Worcester Countryside Centre, Karndean Design Flooring, Green Trak Ashton Under Hill and Gwillams Farm Shop.
