Christmas time at St Richard’s Hospice

Read our monthly column for the Worcester News, on the theme of Christmas at St Richard’s Hospice:

Christmas is just around the corner and we are looking forward to celebrating the festive season at St Richard’s Hospice.

Decorations are going up, bringing plenty of Christmas cheer and sparkle to the building – including magnificent Christmas trees, kindly donated by Webbs Garden Centres.

2019 has been a busy year for St Richard’s, with plenty to be proud of, and thankful for, over the past 12 months.

With this in mind, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the tireless work and generosity of our volunteers, donors, supporters and staff throughout the year.

We are so grateful to those who give up their time, raise money, make donations and more to help support our many, varied services.

Thanks to this strong community support, we can plan for the future and look ahead to caring for more patients, loved ones and bereaved people across the county.

At this time of year, we rely on our dedicated staff and volunteers to help make Christmas as special as possible for those we care for.

Christmas day at St Richard’s is full of life and activity – presents are given and our kitchen team cooks a delicious meal, complete with all the trimmings.

We know Christmas can be an especially difficult and emotional time for those we care for.

When a loved one is nearing the end of their life, and a family is facing what might be their last Christmas together, the celebrations become even more precious.

We work to make sure Christmas Day at the hospice is as homely and joyful as possible for those who are with us at this special time.

This is only made possible thanks to staff and volunteers who swap spending Christmas at home to help make the day as joyful and homely as possible for patients and their families.

So once again, from all of us here at St Richard’s, thank you for your incredible support.

I wish everyone a peaceful and merry Christmas.

June Patel, Chief Executive of St Richard’s Hospice
