Sale of art held in recognition of hospice care

An art exhibition and sale has raised over £2,000 in aid of St Richard’s Hospice.

The exhibition of paintings by local artist Niki Alcock was organised by her husband Roland Alcock as part of her funeral last month.  Some of Mrs Alcock’s paintings were offered to friends and family, raising £2070 in donations for St Richard’s Hospice which cared for her during her illness.

Niki Alcock, from Severn Stoke, was a keen amateur artist, painting under her maiden name Niki Paynter, and worked for Royal Worcester during the 1970s.

During her treatment for breast cancer, Mrs Alcock worked on a series of abstract paintings on the theme ‘Targeting Cancer’. Mr Alcock decided to donated one of these paintings to St Richard’s Hospice in his wife’s memory for display in the Day Hospice, where she is fondly remembered by staff, volunteers and fellow patients.

Mr Alcock said; “It was a huge support to Niki to know that St Richard’s Hospice was there to offer care and support when she needed it and we were both very grateful that she was able to spend her last days at the hospice. Niki’s art meant such a lot to her and it seemed the perfect idea to raise some money for the hospice by holding an exhibition and sale of some of her work at her funeral.”
