GP shaves head & raises thousands

A leading GP in Worcester has bravely had her head shaved in aid of St Richard’s Hospice, raising around £4,800 to support hospice care.

Dr Catriona Whyte, senior partner at Severn Valley Medical Practice, took a seat in the barber’s chair at the Lyppard Grange surgery on Saturday 19th September. On the day crowds of patients, friends and supporters came along to encourage her as she watched her shoulder length blonde hair fall to the floor.

St Richard’s Hospice works closely with GPs across the county to offer compassionate care to patients with life-threatening illnesses and to support their families. The hospice’s specialist nurses work with a patient’s GP and healthcare team to provide them with support and care, including advice on managing their symptoms, to help them stay as well as possible for as long as possible.

Dr Whyte said: “I have been a GP in Worcester for the past twenty years and have had the privilege of working with St Richard’s Hospice and their staff for most of that time. They provide a wonderfully caring service with inpatient and outpatient care for patients and their families. I am not capable of running a marathon, nor riding from London to Paris, but I can have my head shaved in public – at the surgery. It was a great experience and I was so grateful that so many people came along and supported me. I’m delighted that we have been able to raise so much money to help this amazing Hospice to continue to deliver excellent care.”
