Triple world champion athlete Colin Jackson has launched his third annual Sanlam Go Dad Run in Worcester alongside fellow athlete Jamie Baulch when they took part in a special photoshoot for Go Dad Run’s local charity partner, St Richard’s Hospice.
On the morning of Sunday July 23rd the Go Dad Run 5K and 10K for men and boys will again take place at Worcester Racecourse when some very special sporting champions will set the runners off and then put medals round their necks when they cross the finish line.
Registration has just opened at https://www.strichards.org.uk/event/go-dad-run/ with earlybird prices starting at £8, and runners will receive a timing chip and full results service, a PUMA t-shirt, Big Yellow drawstring bag and a pair of big blue Go Dad Run Y’fronts to wear over their shorts.
Go Dad Run was created by Colin in 2013 to encourage men to talk about their health, especially areas that they are often reluctant to discuss and he hopes to see men and boys signing up and taking part from right across the Worcestershire region on July 23rd.
“I’m delighted that we are having our third event in Worcester as we’ve had such great support here in the past, and it is a privilege to be working with St Richard’s Hospice as well as our other four partner charities. I was inspired to start Go Dad Run a few years ago when two of my uncles developed prostate cancer and, sadly, only the one who talked about it and sought treatment survived.
It was a big shock to discover that 1 in 8 men in the UK will get prostate cancer and that rises to 1 in 4 men from a black African and Caribbean background so I wanted to do something that would raise awareness of the issue as well as wider men’s health problems because I know how important it is to talk and not ignore them.
Prostate Cancer UK have been our lead partner charity for the past five years and we are delighted to now also be working with Bowel Cancer UK, Orchid, who help with men with prostate, penile and testicular cancer and Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) who work to prevent young male suicide.
We are also very grateful to our sponsors, Sanlam UK, Big Yellow Self Storage, PUMA and Wellman as without their collective support we wouldn’t be able to stage these wonderful events. And this year we have a new local partnership with the Black Pear Joggers and hope to see lots of their members running around the outside of the track.
Go Dad Run should be a lot of fun and as well as having all the men pulling on their pants with pride we’d love to see the women in their lives there to cheer them on and we are looking forward to another great morning at Worcester Racecourse!”

TV presenter and former track star Jamie Baulch has been a Go Dad Run ambassador since the project began in 2013 and he joined Colin for the 2017 launch.
