Hospice brings back hot meals to Snowdrops Café

UPDATE: Hot meals have now been reintroduced to the menu at the Snowdrops Cafe, including toasties, jacket potatoes, quiches, frittatas and meal specials. The Cafe is open Monday to Saturday, 9 – 4.

Staff at a hospice café are getting ready to welcome customers once again following its temporary closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The St Richard’s Hospice Snowdrops Café, based at the charity’s shop in St Swithin’s Street, Worcester, will reopen at 9am on Tuesday, September 1.

A number of social-distancing measures are being put in place, to ensure the café can operate as safely as possible.

Measures include two ‘friends meeting tables’ with diagonal, clear screens to allow people from two households to sit together and catch-up. The friends meeting tables will be fitted in the café’s first week of opening.

Dan Corns, Commercial Director at St Richard’s, said: “Over the last month, we have been speaking to our customers and it is clear they have missed our café – and we have missed serving them too!

“We have worked hard to make sure Snowdrops is as safe as possible for our customers, volunteers, and staff.

“In particular, we hope our meeting tables offer a space for people to enjoy a coffee with friends outside their household and feel protected.”

Other safety measures in place at the café include: a ticketing system to control the flow of customers into and around the café and asking customers to keep their face coverings on until seated in the café.

To begin with, Snowdrops will offer a basic menu of teas, coffees, soft drinks, and a selection of cakes and tray bakes made in the kitchens at the hospice in Wildwood Drive, Worcester. Freshly baked scones, made on the premises each morning, will also be available.

“We are thrilled to be able to reopen our socially-distanced Snowdrops and can’t wait to welcome customers back for tea and cake!” continued Mr Corns.

“At times when the café is quiet, it may only be staffed by one person – so please bear with us. Thank you, and we hope to see you soon!”

The café is located on the second floor of the hospice shop in St Swithin’s Street and will open from 9am.
