Lucky hospice raffle winner drives away in new car

A lucky hospice supporter says he feels “elated” after winning a brand new car in a charity raffle.

Steven Muir, aged 56, entered the popular St Richard’s Hospice car raffle in a bid to win a new Mazda 2.

Thousands of raffle tickets, priced at just £2 each, were snapped up raising a tremendous £40,000 to help fund the hospice’s compassionate care to patients living with life-limiting illnesses and support for their loved ones.

Mr Muir, who is from Warrington, near Manchester, travelled to Edwards Motors, in Kempsey, to collect his new car on Wednesday 9 August.

He said: “I feel elated to have won the car. It is great and I’m really pleased to help the hospice through taking part in the raffle.”

Worcester Racecourse sponsored the raffle, along with Droitwich Print and Spa Design, Karndean Design Flooring and Edwards Motors.

Charlie Homer, Fundraiser at St Richard’s, said: “We are absolutely delighted for Steve and really hope he enjoys his brand new car.

“We’d like to thank everyone who bought a raffle ticket for the prize draw – it was incredibly popular this year, with thousands of tickets sold.

“Even though not everyone can be a winner, all of you have helped fund our essential care to patients living with life-limiting illnesses – and for that we are very grateful.”

The draw took place at St Richard’s Hospice, Wildwood Drive, Worcester, earlier this year.
