Cheltenham Festival preview event success

Over a hundred guests at a special event in aid of St Richard’s Hospice were treated to some insider tips for next week’s Cheltenham Festival from a panel of horse racing experts.

The Preview Evening, which took place at The Wood Norton Hotel and Restaurant near Evesham on Tuesday 8th March, raised over £6,000 to help the local hospice continue to provide specialist care to patients with life-limiting illnesses.

Dr Richard Newland, trainer of Grand National winner Pineau De Re, was joined on the expert panel team by leading jockeys Paddy Brennan and Harry Skelton and racing broadcaster Alex Steedman. The panel gave guests an interesting insight into the horses taking part in this year’s Cheltenham Festival and offered their tips and predications for the week’s races.

Dr Newland said; “The panel and I were delighted to be able to share our knowledge of racing with St Richard’s Hospice’s guests, ahead of next week’s festival in Cheltenham. After a delicious meal at The Wood Norton, we enjoyed discussing the current form of the horses and our thoughts on this year’s trainers. It’s fantastic news to hear that the evening raised over £6,000 for a great local charity.”

Alison Parkes, Senior Fundraiser at St Richard’s Hospice, said; “We have received really positive feedback from people who enjoyed the evening and the racing tips and discussions. We would like to thank everyone involved for their support and generosity, particularly the event sponsors Gwillams Farm Shop, Lloyds Bank which is kindly match funding donations and Will Kerton from Knight Frank who managed the auction for us on the night.”
