A team of volunteers helped hundreds of Worcestershire households with their post-festive clear up by collecting and recycling Christmas trees in the county to support local hospice care.
In just three days (13th – 15th Jan) over 600 trees were picked up from households, offices and schools and the initiative raised over £7,500 in donations.
St Richard’s had asked people to make a donation for recycling their trees to support the independent charity’s free care and support of those living with a life-limiting illness.
Local businesses that backed the scheme provided volunteers to collect the trees. They included the Nationwide Building Society; Fortis Living; ACW Trees; Henson Plant Hire; Evesham Trade Centre; PGF Services; Rock Power; Leigh Sinton Christmas Trees; Droitwich Spa Marina; David’s Nurseries, Instant Scenery and Gwilliams.
Jayne Sargeant, St Richard’s Hospice Community Fundraiser, said: “Clearing away a real Christmas tree after the festive season can be a hassle, but this service made life easier for people because the trees were collected from their own doorsteps. We want to thank the fantastic volunteers who made this possible and who supported our care in this way. This was the first time St Richard’s ran the scheme and based on this year’s great success we will hope to make this an annual initiative.”
St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their loved ones. Each year the hospice team supports over 2,500 patients and family members in Worcestershire.
