Celebrate music of stage and screen

Local residents can toe tap and dance the night away with a fabulous jazz orchestra playing music from stage and screen. Music lovers are invited to join St Richard’s Hospice at a special charity evening to enjoy the unique sound of The West Midland Light Orchestra.

The event will be held on Saturday 6th February at the newly refurbished Mercure Kidderminster Hotel in Bewdley, and will see The West Midland Light Orchestra entertain the audience with music and song from the films and stage shows of the 1930s to 1970s.

The orchestra brings a unique sound, comprising a big band as well as a 20 piece string, reed and horn section, which together bring a rich range of textures to its musical arrangements. The orchestra will be joined by singers Becky Grace, Kirsten Lloyd-Leach and Garry Holloway to perform music by the likes of Rogers and Hammerstein, George and Ira Gershwin, and Harold Arlen.

The orchestra’s Musical Director, David Etheridge, who has worked with the likes of Nigel Kennedy, Frank Carson and Bob Monkhouse, will lead the group to bring the audience music from golden era of stage and screen. David currently teaches in Hereford and Malvern, leads the bass section of Malvern’s Chandos Symphony Orchestra and plays in the Malvern Big Band. He has previously been Musical Director for Hereford Sixth Form College Big Band and Hereford Big Band.

The concert will be compered by Master of Ceremonies, Peter Tomlinson, who will share background and insight into the music in his informative, entertaining and individual way and will be encouraging guests to get up and dance!

The event is being kindly sponsored by Greener Options.

Tickets are £10 each, and guests can take advantage of special discounted rates on overnight accommodation and breakfast; £80 double or £75 single. For more information or to book your tickets, please call the Fundraising Team on 01905 763963 or visit the Big Band event page.
